Before you jump into feeding baby solid food there are a few things you can do to prepare your family. Healthy eating habits start now and it is important that you get some basics in from the very beginning.
Get a high chair
If you haven’t purchased one yet, get your baby a high chair that they can sit in. A plastic or wooden one that is wipe-able are the best options as there will be many messy meals in it. Before they start eating solids but have started to show that they are ready it is time to get your baby used of the high chair. Let your baby sit in it when you are having dinner / breakfast and give them plastic bowls or spoons to play with or teething toys to chew while they are in there.
Make dinner time family time
Try to make dinner time a special family time with the TV off and electronic devices out of sight so that everyone can focus on the meal and spending a little extra time together. With hectic schedules its not always possible but try to do it more often than not so baby can get used of meal time, trust me they get easily distracted and can get difficult to food after that.
Offer your baby sips of water
Offer your baby small sips of water from your cup as they learn and practice how to swallow.
Offer baby a momsicle
A popsicle made from breastmilk – momsicle – which is great for babies gums and they’ll get to feel like they are a part of the meal.
The groundwork for healthy eating habits starts now, while your little bundle is still small enough to cradle in your arms. Share what other ways you found helped your baby get into eating solids or what difficulties you faced in the comments section below. :- )
